Exploring Scarborough’s Town-And-Country Charm

Over the last 30 years, Scarborough has become one of the most desirable areas of Toronto for many reasons. Scarborough is close to the city centre but has immense natural beauty – Scarborough Bluffs, anyone? Plus, it has suburban charm, access to shopping and restaurants, walkability, and plenty of transit options.
That being said, let’s take a deeper dive into the benefits of living in Scarborough and how it has all the amenities of a city with the charm of a smaller town.
How Scarborough Brings a Rural Vibe to the City
Surrounding the numerous highrise buildings and bustling shopping areas, Scarborough has expansive green spaces like forests, meadows, and even farmland, giving it a rural yet urban feel that is completely unique to this community.
Plus, with the Scarborough Bluffs (one of the most scenic landmarks in Ontario), gorgeous lakefront beaches, amazing views of Lake Ontario, and countless parks, Scarborough residents can enjoy a slower-paced life, spend lots of time outdoors, and experience a more natural setting within the city of Toronto.
Some neighbourhoods in Scarborough are also less densely populated than other parts of Toronto, making it feel smaller and more of a charming suburb than a city.
Why Scarborough is One of the Best Places to Live in Toronto
Scarborough is considered one of the best places to live in Toronto for families and young professionals. It has the suburban feel that people look for when venturing outside of the downtown Toronto core, but also has all of the urban amenities of a larger city. These include:
- Community centres and recreational facilities
- Libraries
- The TTC
- Bars and restaurants
- College and university campuses
- The Toronto Zoo
- And so much more
Scarborough is also home to some of the city’s best shopping destinations. The Scarborough Town Centre, for instance, rivals the Eaton Centre in size. It’s the largest mall in the eastern part of Toronto and has over 250 stores, services, restaurants, and fast food options.
All of these amenities are easily accessible via the TTC (both bus and subway) and GO Transit.
The Best Neighborhood in Scarborough
Cowdray Court, specifically around Kennedy Rd. and Sheppard Ave East. is one of the best neighborhoods for experiencing Scarborough’s urban amenities but is also close to numerous parks and outdoor spaces.
For instance, Cowdray Court is within walking distance from plenty of stores and shopping centres, restaurants, schools, and amazing green spaces like Ron Watson Park and Inglewood Heights Park. It’s also only a 22-minute drive from Scarborough Bluffs park where you can take in breathtaking views of the rocky escarpment and Lake Ontario.
This area has great transit options too. It’s just minutes from several TTC bus stations, and only a 6-minute drive or 15-minute bus ride to McCowan Station where you can ride the Scarborough Line and travel west-bound all the way to Kipling by connecting to the Bloor-Danforth Line.
Cowdray Court is also just two minutes from the 401, so you easily commute into downtown Toronto or anywhere in the GTA by car.
If you are interested in moving to Scarborough, Gemterra has an upcoming condominium development planned for Cowdray Court at Kennedy Rd. and Sheppard Ave East.
