As summer draws to a close, it’s a good reminder to us all to get out there and make the most of the precious few weeks that are left. With several events and activities to choose from, there are still many fun days ahead. Round up your friends and family and get planning; put these ideas into your calendar now so you won’t miss out. Here are 4 things to do in Scarborough before summer ends.
Spend A Day At The Toronto Zoo
The Toronto Zoo attracts families, to be sure, but there is lots to love at this popular attraction no matter what age you are. Put on some sunscreen and your most comfy shoes and head out; with over 360 species and 10 km of walking trails, you can easily spend a full day here exploring. If you want to get up close and personal with the animals you can add on a Wild Encounter to get even more out of your visit. In the mood for an evening stroll? Visit the zoo at night and check out Terra Lumina, an illuminated walk through your favourite paths.
Explore Rouge National Urban Park
Rouge National Urban Park is massive and covers a lot of territory; it is so big, in fact, that it overlaps the cities of Toronto, Markham, Pickering, and Uxbridge. There’s a wide range of activities you can enjoy here! If you’re looking to be active, the area offers great hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and biking. If relaxing and simply enjoying the views is more your thing, check out the white sand beach at the mouth of the river off Lake Ontario. Rouge National Urban Park is also a popular destination for photographers who like to visit and capture the ever-changing scenery. The park is open 365 days a year and there is no charge for admission.
Visit A Farmers’ Market
We’re still in the prime of the summer season when produce is at its absolute best. Take advantage and support your local farmers’ market, try a new fruit or vegetable, or attempt a brand-new recipe with your haul. The Scarborough Farmers’ Market runs every Tuesday afternoon at Rosebank Park, close to Markham Road and Sheppard Avenue. Here you’ll find a mix of local farmers, talented artisans, and entrepreneurs; shop for individual items, gifts, or pick up a produce or wellness box full of assorted goodies. There are tons of healthy options for shoppers including vegan, non-GMO, paleo, and organic.
Attend The Street Eats Festival
Every summer, Scarborough residents look forward to the Street Eats Festival, which runs every weekend throughout the summer on the grounds surrounding the Scarborough Town Centre. Each weekend there is a different theme, including a Pinoy Night Market, Taco Fest, Fried Chicken Market, and Poutine Festival, to name just a few. Don’t forget to enjoy the Bakers Market and the Craft Beer Village too! Picnic tables, music, and string lights to add to the atmosphere.
We hope you’ll make time to visit these popular spots in Scarborough before the summer ends. Thanks for reading and don’t forget to follow the Gemterra blog for more ideas on what to see and do in the city.
