Who doesn’t love a fun outdoor summer festival? Over the next few months, there’s a lot going on that you can look forward to; do a little planning ahead and be sure to add these to your calendar so you don’t miss out. There’s a great mix of cultural and culinary celebrations to choose from, in all different corners of the city. Here are the best Scarborough festivals to visit this summer.

Taste Of Lawrence

This year marks the 18th annual Taste of Lawrence festival. The July celebration is billed as an international food and cultural festival, which also happens to include lots of entertainment. Throughout the three-day run there are music and dance performances, midway rides, over 130 vendors, and two live entertainment stages to enjoy. Scarborough’s largest street festival takes place on Lawrence Avenue between Warden and Birchmount, and admission is free.

Love Scarborough Festival

The Love Scarborough Festival is new for 2022 so be sure to attend the inaugural celebration! Put together by the same folks who run the highly successful Street Eats Market x STC, expect a wide selection of cuisines made by some of the city’s most popular food trucks, as well as some talented vendors selling their crafty wares. While there haven’t been too many details released about this yet, the food trucks are on site at Scarborough Town Centre throughout the summer and every weekend there are scheduled culinary themes. No matter when you visit, you’re guaranteed to find some great dishes!

The Guild Alive With Culture Festival

This event, held in Guild Park and Gardens, is a true celebration of local artists and artisans. The Guild Alive With Culture Festival runs for two days and is a great spot to do some leisurely browsing, discover what unique and interesting creative work is being done, and pick up a treasure or two. It’s always amazing to see how much talent is on offer and you can feel good supporting local artists and fellow community members. There are also live performances, activities for children, and a beer garden for the adults.

Scarborough Rib Fest

Locals always look forward to the annual Scarborough Rib Fest, which brings the best of the BBQ world to town. Spread across two weekends, one at the end of July and the other at the end of September, you’ll find some of the most popular ribbers, as well as some makers of delicious sides including poutine and corn. Make sure to leave room for dessert or you’ll miss out on the ice cream, doughnuts, and funnel cake. During the pandemic, the rib fest operated in drive-thru fashion; this year we can expect more of a traditional rib fest experience.

Afro-Carib Fest

The 11th annual Afro-Carib Fest will be held at Thomson Memorial Park. Come enjoy the culture and diversity of Afro-Caribbean communities through this celebration of the arts, dance, music, food, and cultural heritage. There are lots of fun-filled interactive activities, as well as live performances to take in. Music is a huge part of this weekend, which is filled with musical performances from local and international artists, a dance, and a cultural parade. You might even learn some new African and Caribbean dance moves!

These summer festivals make fun outings with friends and family; they’re the perfect way to get out and explore different corners of the city, and learn about different cultures, food, and artistic traditions along the way.
